Start the Day Right

Morning Regulation Routines

How a class starts the morning sets the tone for hours. A short, predictable arrival routine helps students leave the bus, the hallway, or home stress at the door and arrive ready to learn.

The 5-minute morning reset

  1. Arrival cue (0:30): soft music or "Reset in 3… 2… 1…" as students settle.
  2. Body scan (1:00): "Notice your feet, your hands, your breath."
  3. Breath Reset (2:00): slow 4-in / 4-out together.
  4. Intention (1:00): "One word for how you want today to go."
  5. Bridge (0:30): move straight into the first activity while calm.

Run the breathing portion on every screen at once with Classroom Sync, or lead it by voice.

Why mornings matter most

A calm start reduces the friction in every transition that follows. It's the highest-leverage two minutes in the day.

Keep it identical every day

Predictability is the active ingredient. Same order, same cue, same time. Students stop wondering what's next and their bodies learn "this is how our day begins."

Adapt by grade

Let it run without you

Once the routine is set, a student helper or on-screen guide can lead it — even on days you're pulled in ten directions. In one pilot, the teacher began running the routine on her own before the founder arrived.

Frequently asked questions

How long should a morning routine be?

About five minutes is plenty. The breathing core can be as short as two minutes on busy days.

What if students arrive at different times?

Use a soft rolling start, then run the breathing portion once most are seated. Latecomers can join the next cue.

Do I need any materials?

No. The routine works with just your voice. A screen-led option is available but optional.

Is this a wellness program or curriculum?

It's a simple daily practice that supports regulation and readiness to learn. It is not a clinical or medical program.
